Dear Deckerville Families,
It is my hope that you have had an outstanding summer filled with rest and quality family time. Our district team has poured countless hours into preparing a special year for our families and we want to express our enthusiasm and commitment to providing the best possible educational experience for every student in our district.
As students arrived for the first week of school they may have noticed a few changes. Over the summer, a lot of work has taken place to: upgrade the HVAC systems; renovate student bathrooms, replace classroom and media center’s carpeting; polish Jr. / Sr. High School hallways, complete pool demolition and fill, and install safety and security window film at entry points throughout the district. In addition, all locker rooms are set to be finished this fall as well. One project that you cannot see is the new fiber that has been run throughout the entire building to improve our access points and connectivity. These summer projects were a direct result from the community support that voted to pass School Building and Site bonds in 2020-2021. These bonds allowed us to dedicate $2.5 million (over the past 3 years) to upgrade our facilities to create safe and first-rate learning facilities for our school community. We greatly appreciate your willingness to support our school which provide opportunities for our students.
Our maintenance and technology departments have done extraordinary work to prepare our schools for students and staff. This was not an easy task considering all of the extensive construction projects going on all at the same time. My sincerest thanks to those employees who made our school ready for our students and staff.
Just a friendly reminder, please know that our teachers, administrators, and staff are here to support you and your student(s) and reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns at the start of the school year. By establishing home-school communications early in the school year we can intervene rapidly to ensure your child has a great school year.
Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to a year filled with many successes and excitement, as we re-engage our families within our school community.
I wish your family a happy and successful school year!
Respectfully,
Matthew Connelly, Superintendent Deckerville Community Schools mconnelly@deckerville.k12.mi.us (810)-376-3615
